Ron Knight began officiating basketball in 1964 when he was a freshman at Ohio State University. He must have enjoyed blowing the whistle and wearing striped shirts because he’s still doing it at the age of 65. Over the years Knight has worked basketball at all levels of Ohio High School Athletic Association competition. He also officiates at baseball, football, softball and volleyball events. Knight has spent his entire 35-year career in education at his alma mater, Bloomfield High School. He has been a teacher, coach, athletics director, principal and an administrative assistant. His greatest contribution to officiating has been in the areas of training and mentoring officials and in the administration of athletic programs. As a district board member, Ron took a special interest in the organization of sectional and district tournaments. For 20 years Ron Knight coordinated the assigning of officials to Northeast District tournaments in all team sports. He was instrumental in advancing the use of the three-official system in high school basketball tournaments.
