Pam Evans Smith established herself as one of the premier women’s basketball coaches in NCAA Division III before she passed away in June of 2007.  She took over a Wittenberg University program that had enjoyed little success and turned it into one of the winningest in the country with twelve 20-victory seasons between 1989 and 2007.  A seven-time North Coast Conference coach of the year, Smith had a 401-170 record. She led the Tigers to eight appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament and won 11 NCAC regular season championships.  Smith was a standout Wittenberg player from 1979-82 who was voted most valuable player for three seasons. She was the Tigers’ all-time leading scorer until one of her players, Margaret Grammas, broke her record in 1988-89.
