Allison Bales, a 6-foot-7 center, led Beavercreek High School to Division I state basketball championships in 2001 and 2003 and went on to score 1,075 points and block 434 shots for Duke University teams that had a combined record of 124-15.

Then, after playing four years for three teams in the Women's NBA and professional teams in Russia, Turkey and France, she followed in her mother's footsteps and became a doctor. She graduated from Wright State University's School of Medicine in 2017 and began her residency in general surgery at Indiana University.

Bales averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds in her senior year at Beavercreek when she shared the Ohio Player of the Year award and was a Parade magazine All-American. She was a three-time USA Today All-American.

At Duke she specialized in blocking shots as the anchor of the Blue Devils' defense. Duke had records of 30-4, 31-5, 31-4 and 32-2 in her four seasons. She was a three-year starter who in her senior year averaged 11.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.4 blocks while playing 29 minutes per game.
