As the men's basketball coach at Baldwin Wallace College for 28 years between 1980 and 2008, Steve Bankson watched the Yellow Jackets win 420 games and lose 328.

During his tenure, Baldwin-Wallace won the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament four times, the OAC regular season championship once and appeared in the NCAA Division III Championship five times.

When he retired in March of 2008 as B-W coach and director of athletics, Bankson said he was more proud of the players' achievements in the classroom than what they did on the court. Eighty-three of his 85 four-year players had earned their degrees.

Bankson began his coaching career with four years as a high school coach in Indiana and Michigan. He served as coach and athletics director at Lorain County Community College for 12 years before taking the B-W post. His 652 victories at the college level is the most credited to any coach in Ohio history.
