Hired as head coach at Wittenberg University at the tender age of 23. Eldon Miller wasted no time proving he belonged. His first team had a 26-2 record and was NCAA Division III national runner-up. Miller would be a head coach for 36 years, guiding his teams into the NCAA tournament eight times. He spent eight years at Wittenberg (1963-70) before coaching at Western Michigan (1971-76), Ohio State (1977-86) and Northern Iowa (1987-98). As a player, Miller led Wittenberg to an NCAA championship in 1961. He was named head coach after the 1962 season. Six years at Western Michigan ended in 1976 with the school’s first Mid-American Conference Championship and an invitation to coach at Ohio State. Four of his 10 Buckeye teams played in the NCAA tournament. His last OSU squad won the 1986 NIT title. Miller moved to Northern Iowa and coached the Panthers for 12 years.
