David West probably had a greater impact on the Xavier University basketball program than any other player in the history of the Cincinnati school. During the four years he was a starter, the 6-foot-9, 240-pound center led the Musketeers to 94 victories, three NCAA Tournament appearances and two NCAA first-round victories. West won an unprecedented three Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year awards and was named national Player of the Year for 2002-03 by the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and Basketball Times. He was a consensus All-American. As a senior, he led Xavier in scoring average (20.1), rebounding (11.8), blocks (1.6) and steals (1.3). He was second in assists, with 102. West scored 47 points and collected 18 rebounds in a win over Dayton. West started a school-record 126 straight games and scored in double figures in 110 games. A first round draft choice of the NBA’s New Orleans franchise, he became a full-time starter in his third year and averaged 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds over his first eight pro seasons.  He is a two-time NBA All-Star as a member of the New Orleans Hornets.  David West currently plays for the Indiana Pacers.
