Larry Harris is perhaps most remembered in Ohio for his outstanding performances in leading Lorain Clearview to the state Class A championship in 1974. The 6-foot-6 Harris was named most valuable player in the tournament after scoring 35 points in the semifinal game and 30 in Clearview’s 74-69 victory over Franklin-Monroe in the title game. He was selected as Class A Player of the Year after scoring 754 points. He finished his prep career with 1,660 points, averaging 17.0 as a sophomore, 22.8 as a junior and 29.0 as a senior. His 960 career rebounds were a school record. Harris didn’t miss a beat when he moved to the University of Pittsburgh. He averaged 7.1, 22.1, 22.9 and 20.6 points in four seasons with the Panthers, accumulating the third highest career point total (1,914) in school history. When he scored 38 at Maryland in 1977, he tied the great Don Hennon’s Pitt record for most points on an opponent’s court. Since then he has spent 26 years as a college assistant coach, including 15 at North Carolina State.
