The University of Cincinnati’s winning basketball tradition began with the contributions of Dick Dallmer when the Bearcats won four straight Mid-American Conference championships from 1947-1950. A graduate of Hamilton High School, Dallmer not only broke UC’s career scoring record with 1,098 points, but he was an outstanding defensive player and the team leader. He received UC’s most valuable player award three times – a feat only duplicated by Oscar Robertson. Dallmer scored 353 points in 1948-49 as the Bearcats won 20 games (23-5) for the first time and were ranked 10th in the nation. He captained the 1949-50 squad that was the first to go unbeaten in Mid-American Conference play. He was first team All-MAC for three years and first team All-Ohio in 1950. Dallmer was selected for an All-American team that faced the Harlem Globetrotters on a nine-game nationwide tour in 1950. He coached basketball four years each at Lockland and Norwood high schools, winning two Hamilton County League titles at Norwood.
