Kevin Wilson played point guard and averaged 18.6, 19.2 and 25 points a game at the now defunct Kent State University High School.
Coached for one of his prep years by Bill Musselman, he was recruited later by Musselman for an Ashland University team that would draw raves for its stingy defense. Wilson started 111 games and was a college division All-America selection in 1969 and 1970.
“We were the tallest team in the country . . . the second tallest in the world,” said the 6-foot-4 Wilson. “We got 82 percent of the rebounds and held our opponents to 33.9 points – the lowest total in the nation. We scored 53 a game. We were 26-4 that year.”
Wilson was drafted by the Utah Stars of the ABA but didn't make the team. He spent four years on Musselman's coaching staff at the University of Minnesota, which won the Big Ten championship in 1972.
Later he was head coach at Chapman University and San Francisco State and an assistant with the Detroit Pistons before turning to administration.
