Mark “Buzzy” Davis left quite an imprint in the basketball record book during his four years at Marietta College and was also instrumental in a remarkable turnaround of the Pioneer fortunes.

Davis averaged 20.3 points over 83 games in his career. He held the school's career scoring record (1,688 points) for 42 years.

Marietta had a 6-12 record in his freshman year. It improved to 12-12 the next year. Then he led the Pioneers to back-to-back Ohio Athletic Conference championships.

Marietta lost its 1953-54 season opener, 83-72, to Division I Ohio University and finished the season with 20 straight victories including a 116-93 decision over the OU Bobcats in the finale.

With Davis averaging 26 points per game as a senior, Marietta put together a 20-4 record and won another OAC championship. Davis made the All-OAC team three straight years.

He was living in Largo, Fla., when he died on Oct. 14, 2012.
