Gary Trent is considered by many to have been the best basketball player in the history of Ohio University. During his career the OU students held up signs that said: “Shaq of the MAC.” At 6-foot-8 and 250 pounds, he was the Mid-American Conference's closest thing to Shaquille O'Neill. He muscled his way to the basket for points and rebounds so impressively that he was the only player in MAC history voted Player of the Year in his first three seasons. In his sophomore and junior years, before he left to play in the National Basketball Association for 10 years, the Bobcats had records of 25-8 and 24-10. The 1993-94 team finished 25-8 overall and 14-4 as MAC champions. They lost to Indiana in the NCAA Tournament.  The 1994-95 team finished 24-10 and beat George Washington in the NIT but lost to Iowa. Trent averaged 19 points and 9.6 rebounds as a freshman, 25.4 points and 11.4 rebounds as a sophomore and 22.9 points and 12.8 rebounds as a junior. He finished his college career with 2,108 points and 1,050 rebounds. During his NBA career from 1995-2004, Trent played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves.
