As a basketball referee and administrator of officials, Rob Doss has served at virtually every level during a magnificent career spanning 30-plus years.

In 2010, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) assigned Doss to the post of Supervisor of Women’s Basketball Officials. The following year, the WHAC – the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference – followed suit and tabbed Doss for the same role.

Those assignments were not surprising considering Doss, who hails from Zanesville, Ohio, was considered so honorable as a game official that he was assigned to women’s national championship tournaments at the NAIA and NCAA DII levels. He officiated four NAIA tournaments, including the 1992 national championship game, and worked two DII Elite Eight tournaments, including the 2006 national championship.

Doss wore the stripes during 15 consecutive GLIAC women’s basketball tournaments, 13 NCAA Division II Midwest Region tournaments and D-II Regional championship games. He also has been on the whistle for several Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournaments including a MAC championship game. He was a mainstay during important PAC, NCAC and OAC conference contests and was assigned to multiple NCAA D-III tournament games, the NCCAA National Tournament and the NJCAA National Tournament.

Doss also is a familiar face to followers of both the boys and girls high school postseason tournaments as he was an OHSAA official for each sport with multiple appearances in the regional and state championships over the years. For decades, he achieved a well-earned reputation for fairness, advancing the game of roundball across the state.
