Thurman Leggs, Jr. is a Dayton-area basketball official known across the country for helping many referees get their start. He’s been wearing the stripes for nearly 30 years, 23 of them as an NCAA official. He refereed the 2007 NAIA Division II Women's National Championship along with several conference championships.
His exceptional experience includes officiating NCAA Division I and III Tournaments including the Final Four in 2012 and Elite Eight in 2016. He also served as an official for the National Junior College Athletic Association for seven years in addition to his time with the International Basketball League, Premier Basketball League, Ohio Athletic Conference, Northwest Athletic Conference, American Midwest Conference, and more.
Leggs led the Miami Valley Officials Association as President from 2003-04. He was also a longtime basketball instructor for high school referees and promoted the high school game. Thurman and his wife Charlene have one son, who is a US Marine. He is a University of Illinois graduate who earned his degree in mathematics and computer science.
