Bob Beutel established himself as one of Ohio's most successful high school girls basketball coaches over a remarkable 40-year career, compiling a 726-217 record (77% winning percentage) that ranks second all-time among Ohio high school girls basketball coaches. His coaching excellence spanned three programs: West Geauga (32-15), Eastlake North (461-134), and Gilmour Academy (233-68), where he averaged 18 wins per season while leading teams to 16 district titles, and four regional titles, resulting in four State Final Four berths, culminating in a 2017 State Championship at Gilmour Academy.
A graduate of Eastlake North High School, where he earned All-Ohio honors in both football and basketball before playing college football at Northwestern University, Beutel transformed West Geauga into a winner with their first successful season in a decade after building dynasties at Eastlake North and Gilmour Academy. His coaching prowess developed 38 All-Ohio players, including standouts Kaayla Chones, Kate Mooney, Naz Hillmon, Claudia Euse, Steph Youdath, and Emily Kelley, as well as his own daughters, Britt and Brooke.
Throughout his coaching journey, Beutel's wife Claudia—a former player under Bob in the early 1980s before her own career at Cleveland State—served as assistant coach for 560 of those victories, making their partnership a cornerstone of his success. His achievements earned recognition in the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame, Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, and Eastlake North Hall of Fame.
