Hegemier compiled an impressive 613-280 career record across six programs, including Waynesfield-Goshen, Spencerville, Fort Loramie, New Knoxville, Memorial-St. Marys, and Wright State University-Lake Campus, where he achieved two 20-win seasons from 2000-2005. His teams captured 14 league titles, 16 sectional championships, 11 district titles, and four regional championships.

Among Ohio's most decorated coaches, Hegemier became one of only 13 coaches to win three state titles and one of just eight boys' coaches to win championships at two different schools. He led Fort Loramie to state titles in 1987 and 1993, the latter defeating Delphos St. John's. His crowning achievement came in 2008 when he guided his hometown New Knoxville Rangers to a perfect 27-0 season and the school's first-ever state championship.

Hegemier's excellence earned him induction into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the University of Findlay Athletics Hall of Fame. His numerous accolades include three AP Ohio Coach of the Year honors (1993, 2007, 2008), the 2007 Ohio Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year award, multiple district coach-of-the-year recognitions, and selection to coach prestigious all-star games, forever cementing his legacy in Ohio basketball history.
