Jannon Roland enjoyed a storybook basketball career. At 6-foot-1, she played center on two Division II state championship teams (1992, 1993) at Urbana High School and played in the Final Four as a freshman at Purdue University. She also played three years of professional basketball. At Urbana, Roland averaged 28.1 points as a junior and 29.5 as a senior when she was selected as Ohio Division II Player of the Year. After coming off the bench as a freshman at Purdue, she averaged 12.1, 13.6 and 18.9 points in three years as a starter at forward. She also was an excellent rebounder. In 1997, she captained the Boilermakers and was elected the team’s Most Valuable Player. The coaches selected her as Player of the Year in the Big Ten. Purdue reached the NCAA Tournament in three of her four years on the squad.
