Trinity High School Girls 1990
1990 State Champions
Trinity (25-3) outscored its opponents by an average of 28.7 points per game in becoming the first Cleveland-area team to win the Division II championship. Nevertheless, it was a shocking 52-50 victory over Warren Champion in the Stow Regional that made the state title possible. Falling behind, 50-48, with nine seconds left, Trinity tied the game at 50 with six seconds to play. When Warren Champion attempted to inbound the ball, Trinity’s Kara Harkness stole the ball and sliced between two defenders for the winning basket. Trinity then defeated Urbana, 54-50, in the state semifinals and stopped Elida, 70-60, in the championship game when MVP Melissa Jurecki collected 17 points and 17 rebounds.
