Alice “Sis” Norris Roberts Harbarger played basketball in Perry County in the 1930s when players were required to remain in a specific area of the court and permitted to take only one dribble. Known as Sis Norris at the time, she was on the defensive end in her first two years at Shawnee High School. She moved to an offensive position as a junior and scored an amazing 1,137 points in her career. Technically, she averaged 19.3 points in 59 games, but most of those points came in the last two years. Shawnee was unbeaten (14-0-1) in 1936 and won the county tournament. Alice averaged 29 points per game in 1936 when her team won the last of three straight league championships. In a five-game stretch she scored 30, 30, 31, 42 and 41 points while playing six-minute quarters with a running clock. Girls basketball was discontinued at the Perry County schools in 1938. Shawnee no longer exists. It became part of the Southern Local school district in 1964.  Alice lives in Logan, Ohio.
